VEGETARIAN CURRIES AND SIDES FOR PLAIN RICE 
PAPPAYA (OMAKKA) THORAN Pappaya Thoran is one of those dishes with lots of health benefits. Pappaya is a rich source of Vitamin C, B, folate, pantothenic acid, fiber, magnesium, copper, potassium, etc.

VENDAKKA/ BHINDI MASALA Vendakka also known as Okra is a great vegetable that has Vitamin A, Calcium, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, Fiber, Folic Acid etc.




TOMATO RASAM Tomato Rasam is one of my all time favorite sides with plain rice. But there is always someone else who loves this side more than me and right now it is my brother-in-law. 


ACHINGA PAYAR THORAN / LONG BEANS STIR FRY One of the widely used vegetable in Kerala is long beans. This vegetable can be grown very easily in our backyard and most of the home in Kerala have at least one corner ground set aside for this. 

BEETROOT PACHADI Health benefits to eating beetroot are, it is liver cleansing, detoxifying and very good for digestion. I think it is best to incorporate beetroot into your daily diet to stay healthy.

PINEAPPLE PACHADI Pachadi is a Keralite dish served as a side dish for rice. It is usually made using any of the vegetables like beetroot, cucumber, ladies finger, bitter guard etc and fruits like pineapple, mango, ripe plantain etc.

VARUTHARACHA KADALA CURRY/ BLACK CHICKPEAS CURRYPuttu and kadala (black chickpeas) curry is the one of the most favorite breakfast food for all the malayalees. This curry can go best along with chapati, dosa, appam and rice.

VAZHAKKAY (RAW PLANTAIN) THORAN Every time I eat Vazhakkay Thoran it reminds me of "Avial". Like everything else this is one of my favorite dishes too and I try to prepare it every other week at home.


BEANS THORAN (stir fry) Well today I needed more side dishes for dinner and one of them is Beans thoran. This dish is a very simple and delicious side dish with rice and will be loved by everyone.







POTATO STIR FRY (MEZHUKUPURATTI) Potato is a vegetable that always holds a special place in our kitchen. Potatoes can be cooked in many ways, such as curry, stir fried, baked, grilled, mashed etc.
