Every time I eat Vazhakkay Thoran it reminds me of "Avial". Like everyone else this is one of my favorite dishes too and I try to prepare it every other week at home. If you never had this dish before, make sure to follow the steps below and try it out. It is a recommened.
Lets go ahead and start making Vazhakkay Thoran step by step.
METHOD OF PREPARATION STEP BY STEP
1.Peel the banana and then wash it really well. Cut it into small cube sizes into the water, to prevent blackish discoloration.
2.Add 1/2 a cup of water and Cook the cubed plantain in a thick bottomed pan over medium flame for about 5-8 minutes.
3.Combine grated coconut, green chilies, garlic, shallots and turmeric powder and blend it to form a smooth paste. Mix everything well and Then cover and cook on a low heat for few minutes.
4.Heat oil in another pan. Splutter mustard seeds. Add in sliced shallots, dry red chilly and curry leaves and saute it until the shallots(small red onion) are golden brown. Pour this tempering over the cooked plantain and mix everything well. Remove from heat.
SERVE IT WITH RICE
