RAVA (SEMOLINA) UPMA / UPPUMAV

Rava (semolina) upma is special to me, this is the recipe that I made for the first time. I started of making plain upma in the beginning and then later did my own experimentation by adding vegetables like carrot, corn, beans, peas, tomato etc, and it became a huge success among my family. The combination I like with my upma is Kerala egg roast, but my husband likes banana and he will not agree to having any kind of curry with upma and not only that, he needs about 4-5 bananas along with it. I am sure I can change his mind one of these days.
Rava upma ia a very easy to make breakfast recipe. It is delicious and at the same time healthy, because it vegetables and contains no fatty elements.

METHOD OF PREPARATION IN STEP BY
STEP

1.Heat pan and add semolina and fry the semolina without oil by stiring continuously until roasted and golden yellowish. It should not be browned. Remove from the flame and transfer it into a plate. You can skip this step,if you have roasted semolina.

2.Heat oil in a pan and splutter the mustard seeds. Add urad dal/ toor dal and saute until golden yellowish. Then add chopped onion, green chilly, dried red chilly, curry leaves and minced ginger and saute it until the onion is translucent.

3. Add chopped carrot, corn and peas and saute it for few minutes.Add turmeric powder  and mix well.

4. Add 2 cups of water and bring to a boil over medium flame.Add salt as needed.

5. When the water starts to boil, lower the flame and pour the roasted semolina little by little with one hand and stir continuously with the other hand.

6. Add 1/2 tsp of ghee or butter into it. Adding ghee/ butter makes the upma more softer and delicious. Stir continuously to break the lumps.
7. Remove from heat and remain covered for 5-7 minutes or till serving. Before serving mix well again to remove any lumps.

SERVE HOT WITH BANANA OR KERALA EGG ROAST.

ENJOY!!!
